About
About the company
Globalization has meant that industry needs to deliver consistently high quality goods and services, introducing new products, investing in more efficient production processes and creating new markets. Innovation has become the number one priority.
Developed countries such as the United Kingdom are now pursuing technology strategies which encompass sustainable consumption, a healthcare system which innovates and exploits the very latest technology, a sustainable and modern built environment; an intelligent connected world, a more secure environment, environmentally friendly transport systems and efficient energy systems.
In each of these areas textiles have a major part to play and can offer advantages over traditional materials such as technologically advanced products, flexibility, softness, and high strength to weight ratio. In addition once new products are designed and prototyped there are already highly developed mass production techniques to take them forward to the marketplace.
Against this backdrop, Engineered Fibre Structures was founded as a University spin-out company in 2001 by Dr Tilak Dias, and Dr Bill Cooke, both senior academics and researchers within the Department of Textiles at UMIST, now The University of Manchester. The team was strengthened in 2005 with the introduction of its own Commercial Director, Billy Hunter, a textiles industry professional with a strong international commercial and technical background in the knitting industries and textile machinery.
